Pukeko Ceramic Art Tile
These beautifully crafted tiles are meticulously hand painted and fired with a range of original and unique designs.
The artistic process is a careful and labour intensive task. The first step is to draw the image on a rough tile surface and then delicately apply the relief work, which creates the unique three-dimensional outline.
The tiles then receive several layers of glaze to enhance the rich textures and dynamic colours.
The final stage is to fire the tiles in kilns at 1000 degrees Celsius for at least 24 hours. A full day is required to ensure that the artwork is set into the body of the tile, creating a unique and robust surface.
The tile is finally mounted onto a backing board with an extendable prop to make it stand or use the hole for hanging.
